ある日、忙しい朝の時間に「聖書を読まなきゃ！」と自分に言い聞かせて、机に向かい聖書を開きました。その日に読む予定のページを開くと、次の言葉が目に飛び込んできました。

しかし同時にヨシャファトはイスラエルの王に、「まず主の言葉を求めてください」と言った。

ヨシャファトは南王国ユダの王でした。彼は分裂した北王国イスラエルと和解をした王として知られています。先の言葉は、イスラエル王に「わたしたちと一緒に敵と戦ってくれませんか？」と促された時の彼の応答です。

ヨシャファトには王としてなすべきことがたくさんあったことでしょう。国内の政治、そして外交問題など課題が山積していたかもしれません。しかし、この言葉に彼が第一にしていたものがはっきりとあらわされています。それは、イエス様が私たちに与えられた命令と約束の言葉でもあります。イエス様はこう言われました。

何よりもまず、神の国と神の義を求めなさい。そうすれば、これらのものはみな加えて与えられる。だから、明日のことまで思い悩むな。明日のことは明日自らが思い悩む。その日の苦労は、その日だけで十分である。

私は先のことが心配で夜眠れなくなったときに、この聖句を読むようにしています。これは、私たちが第一のものを第一とするとき、神様はすべての必要に応えてくださるという約束です。慌ただしく時間が流れ、すべきことが次々と押し寄せて来る現代にあって、聖書の言葉は私たちに力強く語りかけています。

One busy morning, I told myself. “I need to read the Bible.” And when I opened the Bible, this word came into my mind. This word corrected my mind.

And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Inquire first for the word of the Lord.” (1 Kings 22:5 ESV)

Jehoshaphat was a king of Judah. He is known as the king who made Judah reconciled with Israel. When he was told the king of Israel “Please fight against enemies with us”, he answered like that.

He may be had many things had to do as a king. There were not only domestic problems but also international work. But this word reveals what his top priority was. It is in common with the words to which Jesus has spoken.

 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.(Matthew 6:33,34 ESV)

When I can’t sleep because of my worries, I read this Scripture. It makes me calm very much. Jesus has promised us that if we keep His command as our top priority, he give us everything we need. It’s quite busy era that we are living. God’s Word speaks strongly to us.

11月10日、光風台三育小学校40周年記念礼拝に出席しました。約20年前に働いていた小学校と教会に久しぶりに出席して、懐かしい方々と再会することができました。当時のかわいい小学生たちが立派に成長している姿を見ることができてとても嬉しかったです。卒業生との聖書の学びの時間に、ひとつのイエス様の例え話をみんなで読みました。

「そこで、わたしのこれらの言葉を聞いて行う者は皆、岩の上に自分の家を建てた賢い人に似ている。雨が降り、川があふれ、風が吹いてその家を襲っても、倒れなかった。岩を土台としていたからである。わたしのこれらの言葉を聞くだけで行わない者は皆、砂の上に家を建てた愚かな人に似ている。雨が降り、川があふれ、風が吹いてその家に襲いかかると、倒れて、その倒れ方がひどかった。」

小学校を卒業して、それぞれの道を歩んだ卒業生たち。きっと簡単には話せないような辛い出来事や、困難に直面することがたくさんあったことでしょう。今もそのような試練の真っただ中にいるためにこの日集まることが出来なかった人もいたかもしれません。このたとえ話によれば、「岩の上に家を建てた人」「砂の上に家を建てた人」いずれの人生にも、「雨が降り、川があふれ、風が吹いてその家を襲った」と書かれています。私たちが何を土台として生きているのか、違いが明らかになるのは、そのような試練の日なのです。聖書は、決して変わることのない神様の言葉を聞

き、それに従う人を、「岩を土台とする」生き方をする人、と教えています。学び舎を巣立っていった若者たちが「岩を土台として」生きていって欲しい、と願うと同時に、自分自身もそのような生き方をしていきたいものだと改めて強く感じました。

I visited to Kofudai Saniku elementary school on November 10 for 40th anniversary worship. I was working there for 20 years ago. I met with many nostalgic people there. The students grew up and became adults. On that day, I had Bible class with them, and we have read this Bible story together.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”(Matthew 7:24-27 ESV)

They may have faced many hardship after they graduate the school. Some faced difficulties, so some people could not get there.

According to this Bible story, both of them (“who built his house on the rock” and “who built his house on the sand”) were facing hardship. Their differences will not be revealed on a calm day. However, when encountering difficulties, the difference in their foundation became clear. Bible is teaching that importance of listen to God word and to obey it. Jesus taught us it means that “it had been founded on the rock”.

I hope that students lay the foundations of their lives on “rock”.

And I also hope to make my foundation on the rock.

今週は休暇をいただいて、両親と一緒に母の実家の長野に行ってきました。3日間両親、そしてふだんなかなか会うことのない親戚の人たちとの交わりを楽しむことが出来ました。往復の道中、両親とゆっくり話をすることが出来ました。そして長野では私が幼かった頃と変わらず、おじさんおばさんたちがあたたかく迎えてくれて、忘れかけていた子どもの頃の懐かしい思い出がたくさんよみがえって来ました。

インターネットの普及により、遠く離れたところにいる人たちとも顔を見ながら会話をすることが出来るようになりました。しかしそんな時代だからこそ、お互いに時間を割いて共に時間を過ごすことの意味や価値が、より一層増しているように感じました。

今年もクリスマスシーズンが近づいてきました。救い主イエス・キリストの誕生について、聖書には次のように書かれています。

「見よ、おとめが身ごもって男の子を産む。その名はインマヌエルと呼ばれる。」この名は、「神は我々と共におられる」という意味である。

イエス様がこの地上に生まれたことをお祝いするクリスマスは、神様が私たち人間を見放すことなく、「共におられる」お方であることを告げています。イエス様は、神の子でありながら、自らその地位を捨てて一人の人としてこの世界に降りて来て、私たちと共に時間を過ごしてくださいました。神様が人間と共にいて、共に喜び、共に泣いてくださったのです。人と人とのつながりが希薄になりつつある現代に「神は我々と共におられる」と聖書は語りかけています。

I went to Nagano prefecture this week with my parents. There is my uncle’s house. I spent time there for 3 days with them. It was really meaningful time for me. I enjoyed talk with parents. My uncle and aunt welcomed us very much. So I was able to enjoy spent time with them. I remembered that my childhood during staying there.

Today, because of the spread of the Internet, we can see each other’s face even if we are far away. It made our life convenient.

However, that’s why it is even more important for us to spend time today.

The Christmas season is approaching. The Bible teaches us about the birth of the Jesus Christ.

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).(Matthew 1:23 NIV)

Christmas teaches that “God with us”.

Jesus was the Son of God, but he came down to this earth and lived with humans. God is with us, and He spends time with us.

We are living in a very busy time. It is a time when the connection between people is getting thinner. The Bible is proclaiming to us that “God is with you”.

今週、年に一度の健康診断に行ってきました。残念なことに私は血圧が高めです。さらに悪いことに健康診断のために病院に行くと、いつもよりも数値が上がります。「今年は正常値におさめたい！」と強く念じながら、病院に着いてからも目を閉じて深呼吸を繰り返していました。いよいよ血圧測定です。数値は…今年も若干高めでした…。その後何回か計り直していただきましたが、大きく下がることはありませんでした。

一通りの検査が終わって、最後に担当医との面談がありました。そこで先生から言われた言葉にドキッとさせられました。

「あなたはすでに健康的な生活を心かげてこられたようですね…。ただ、ストレスには気をつけてください。毎日瞑想をする時間を持つといいでしょう。」

確かにここ数年、食生活や定期的な運動などを心かげてきました。しかし、それだけではまだ十分ではなかったのです。「瞑想の時間」すなわち、心を静かにして神様を交わる時間をもっとたっぷり取ることが、忙しくまた強いストレスにさらされる私たちには必要なのだと健康診断を通して改めて気づかされました。

イエス様のライフスタイルの中に、秘訣があります。

朝早くまだ暗いうちに、イエスは起きて、人里離れた所へ出て行き、そこで祈っておられた。（新約聖書　マルコによる福音書1:35　新共同訳）

イエス様は、神様との静かな交わりの時間を毎朝守っておられました。その時間を持つことが、イエス様のエネルギーの源だったのです。私もこのイエス様の生活を模範として、毎日の神様との静かな交わりの時間を大切にしていきたいと思います。

I went to medical checkup this week. Unfortunately, the number of my blood pressure is little bit high. Especially, when I go to the hospital it will be higher than usual.

On that day, I kept telling myself “be calm down” and I did deep breathing.

How was the result? The number of blood pressure of mine was higher than standard number.

I met a doctor after all the exams were over and she told me,

“I know that you have already improved your lifestyle. But I just want to tell you that please be careful your stress. Having time for meditation everyday might be good for your stress”.

Certainly, I have improved my lifestyle in recent years. But I realized that it was not enough for my health.

I need more time to spend with God to withstand stress. Jesus have shown the key that how can we withstand stress.

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.” And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.” And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons(Mark 1:35-39 ESV).

Jesus have kept the time every morning spending time with his father during his life. It was origin of his strength. I would like to follow his lifestyle. It will make me healthier than now.

10月21日、八王子教会で「素マイルフォト撮影会」が持たれました。プロカメラマンの方のご厚意で、普通では考えられないような値段で撮影をしていただくことが出来ました。私も写真を撮っていただいたのですが、生まれて初めての経験でした。

私たちは、カメラが自分に向けられると緊張します。そんな私たちの心理をよく理解しているカメラマンの方が、上手に私たちの緊張を和らげ、自然な笑顔を引きだしてくださって和やかな雰囲気の撮影会になりました。

「写真」は、「真実を写す」と書きますが、撮影された写真に良くも悪くもそのときの自分の本当の姿があらわれます。「笑顔をつくらなきゃ！」と意識しすぎるとかえって不自然な表情になってしまいます。鏡で自分の顔を見るとき、どうしても自分の欠点や気になる部分ばかりに目がいってしまう傾向があるそうです。自然な表情で写真を撮ってもらうには、被写体になる自分が、まず自分自身を受け入れていることが必要なのだと気づかされました。

聖書に次のように書かれています。

『あなたの隣人をあなた自身のように愛せよ。』（新約聖書　マタイによる福音書22：39　新改訳）

「隣人を愛する」ためには、まず「自分自身を愛する」（受け入れる）必要があります。自分自身を受け入れることが出来ないとき、私たちは本当の意味で他者を愛し受け入れることが出来ないのです。神様によって造られ、ありのままで愛されている自分自身を、感謝し受け入れられたら、もっと自然体で豊かな生き方が出来るのかもしれません。

「素マイルフォト撮影会」は、自分自身を見つめ直すよい機会になりました。
